List of Kogi governorship candidates and their political parties

The Kogi gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on November 11, 2023. Some political parties are already conducting primaries to select their flagbearer.

So far, the following candidates have emerged as their parties’ candidates:

Ahmed Usman Ododo – APC

Former Auditor General for Local Governments in Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, cliched the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket after the conducted direct primary election on April 14, 2023.

Ododo, scored a total of 78,704 votes, a wide margin, to defeat six other contestants in the governorship race.

About seven other aspirants including the state’s deputy governor, Edward Onoja, Governor Yahaya Bello’s Chief of Staff, Pharm. Mohammed Asuku, had earlier withdrawn from the gubernatorial race on the eve of the primary election.

Ododo, defeated a fellow Egbira man the Barr. Mohammed Ozigi Salami, who scored 1,506 votes while the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Smart Adeyemi, scored the least number of votes – 311.

Dino Melaye – PDP

Senator Dino Melaye won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election on April 16, 2023.

Melaye who represented Kogi West at the National Assembly, scored 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ilona Idoko-Kingsley who scored 124 votes, while Usman Mohammed Kabiru scores 121 votes to place third.

Abayomi Awoniyi-Sunday scored 77 votes to emerge forth, while Wada Musa scored 56 votes to place fifth. Ojaja Gideon-Enama 5 votes, and Olufemi Olarewaju 2 votes.

Samson Omale – YPP

Braimoh

Dr Samson Omale emerged as the Young Progressive Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Kogi, after a primary election held on April 17, 2023 in Lokoja.

Omale, who was the only aspirant, was unanimously affirmed and adopted as the party’s governorship candidate, in the presence of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.

Braimoh – AA

 Olayinka Braimoh, on April 17, 2023 emerged the governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA).

Braimoh, an entrepreneur fondly called Young Businessman, scored 101 votes to beat his rival, Mr Simon Aku, who scored 4 votes after one of the contestants, Ada Haruna withdrew for Braimoh during the party’s primary election held in Lokoja.
