Meet Professor Saheed Aderinto, world’s largest History prize winner

Who is Saheed Aderinto? Biography, Wikipedia

Saheed Aderinto is a Professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University.

He became more popular in March 2023 when he was announced the winner of the $300,000 Dan David Prize, reportedly the largest historical prize in the world.

He moved to the United States in 2005 to study at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his MA and Ph.D. in 2007 and 2010, respectively.

Controversy

‘Asking Tinubu to restore stolen mandate’

A Twitter parody account of Saheed Aderinto in March, 2023 chastised Nigeria’s president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after he (Tinubu) posted a congratulatory message to the real Aderinto over his winning of $300,000 Dan David Prize.

The parody account quoted Tinubu’s tweet and wrote, “Thanks anyways for the recognition, I hope you restore Our stolen Mandate.”

To clear the air, Aderinto, through his facebook page notified the public he is not the one behind the post and that “I don’t have a Twitter account”.
