Facebook and Instagram Users to start paying $12 Monthly for Verification

After the leadership of Twitter announced the subscription of blue tick for $8 monthly, Meta made a similar move to monetize the badge.

Facebook and Instagram users will start paying $11.99 monthly to verify their accounts.

The new policy will start in Australia and New Zealand this week. Users will present a government ID to verify their account. The verified accounts will have extra protection against impersonation and direct access to customer support.

“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services,” Mark Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook wall.

The company confirmed that accounts on Facebook and Instagram which are already verified would remain unchanged and further stated that only users above 18 years old will be eligible to subscribe. It should be noted that the service is currently not accessible to businesses.

Meta, under pressure to generate revenue for its Metaverse invention, recently announced the layoff of about 11,000 employees in one of the largest worker reductions in the company’s history.

The company experienced its first annual sales decline since its initial public offering in 2012 earlier this month, but the decrease was not as severe as anticipated. Additionally, the company revealed that daily Facebook users had reached two billion for the first time.
