The Department of State Service (DSS) has reportedly invaded the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and occupied the office of Governor Godwin Emefiele.

According to a report by Daily Nigerian, the DSS operatives stormed the CBN headquarters with about 20 vehicles with armed personnel.

They also barred all staff of the bank from gaining access to Emefiele’s office.

NewsWireNGR reports the secret service had earlier sought a court order to arrest Mr Emefiele over alleged terrorism financing but he has been out of the country for his annual leave which is expiring tomorrow, January 17.

However, the FCT High Court in December barred the SSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining the CBN’s governor.

The development has generated reactions online. Below are some:

Please, what exactly is the offense of the CBN Governor that he’s being declared wanted? I am totally lost.

From the first day he had eyes on the presidency is the first day he signed for his doom. Some offices are meant to be apolitical. Even if you’re political. You should hide it when you assume some positions. He’s in for a very long ride. His case will continue with the next govt

A CBN governor vying for a political position is unthinkable, he played into their hands and now open to ridicule.
