Biography

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, previously Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima, MFR, was a  Nigerian filmmaker and entertainment executive famously called “the queen of Nollywood films”.

She was born on the 30 of March. Peace died in the early hours of the 10th of January 2023 after being in coma for three days.

The award-winning filmmaker is renowned for founding the globally celebrated film ceremony, Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Anyiam-Osigwe holds a BA in Law & political science from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford. 

Career

She started her career as a writer and had her first work published at nine in Punch, a national newspaper in Nigeria. At 16, while still studying in the UK, Peace published a magazine called Clicks, which gained public attention.

She subsequently followed this by shooting her first short film.

Osigwe then later founded the Africa Film Academy and the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), which has grown in the past decade into the premiere award program for the African film industry.

AMAA has consistently been active for the last 17 years, rewarding hard work towards filmmaking in Africa. The award ceremony is one of the most recognized awards for Africans in film-making. 

Later, Peace resigned from her position as CEO of AMAA to launch the AfricaOne campaign to honour Africans in the entertainment sector.

She has also published other authors under her publishing company, All Media International.

Peace reportedly died on the 10th of January 2023, at St. Nicolas Hospital, Lagos, after being in a coma for three days.

She received a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic award from the Nigerian government in 2012 for her work in the entertainment sector.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe is a recipient of the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles (PAFF) Channel Visionary Award for her efforts in promoting African Culture through her internationally recognized African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

She was bestowed with the African Vision Award for Innovative Initiatives for African Cinema at the 60th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

CNN featured her in 2014 on the popular social diary programme Inside Africa to critical acclaim

Before her death, she was the president of the Association of Movie Producers, the oldest Registered Association of the Nigerian film industry. 

She is also a TED fellow.

She was also a member of the Honorable Society of Inner Temple of Barristers in the United Kingdom.
