Education

Tory dropped out of school in the tenth grade to pursue music full-time.

Career

Tory recorded and released his debut mixtape, ‘T.L 2 T.O.,’ in 2009 using YouTube as a platform to show off his rapping abilities to the rest of the world. He quickly rose to prominence after directing his own music videos.

Sean Kingston, a well-known figure in the Florida rap scene at the time heard some of Tory’s rap on Lloyd Banks’s song ‘Beamer, Benz, or Bentley,’. He was impressed and decided to make Tory an offer

Tory and Sean met while attending a Justin Bieber concert. Tory was also given the opportunity to perform live during the show by Sean. The performance was well received by the audience. Tory felt encouraged to work on more mixtapes as a result of this.

In 2010, Tory released four mixtapes, namely, ‘Just Landed,’ ‘One Verse One Hearse,’ ‘Playing for Keeps,’ and ‘Mr. 1 Verse Killah.’ Following the success of his mixtapes, Sean approached Tory and offered him a deal with his record label, ‘Time is Money Entertainment’ (TME). With ‘TME,’ Tory released mixtapes such as ‘Mr. Peterson,’ ‘Chixtape,’ and ‘Swavey.’

Soon, Tory decided to work as an independent artist and quit the label. He then started his own record label and management company “One Umbrella” in 2014. It began as a clothing company under the Forever Umbrella subsidiary. Mansa was the label’s first signee in 2018, and it has since signed artists Davo, Mariah the Scientist, Kaash Paige, and VVS Ken.

In the coming years, he released several more mixtapes. In 2014, Tory revealed his Teyana Taylor fanboy persona with the song ‘Teyana,’ which he dedicated to the rapper. She responded with a single titled ‘Dreams of Fuckin’ an R & B Bitch’.

He then started a series called ‘Fargo Fridays,’ where he would release new singles every Friday. Some of the most famous singles from ‘Fargo Fridays’ were ‘I’ll Be There,’ ‘Talk on Road,’ and ‘The Godfather.’

He had already begun working on a mixtape titled ‘Lost Cause’ at the time. Tory released a single called ‘The Mission’ in August 2014 to announce the tape’s promotional tour. The mixtape, which was released in October, was a huge success. The album’s lead single, ‘Luv,’ peaked at the 19th spot on the ‘US Billboard Hot 100,’ while another song, ‘Say It,’ peaked at the 23rd spot on the same chart.

Tory’s second album, ‘Memories Don’t Die,’ was released in March 2018. Wiz Khalifa and 50 Cent made guest appearances on the album. The album debuted at number three on the ‘US Billboard 200’ chart and received mixed reviews from critics. The album was largely panned for its lack of originality.
