The Kano State Hisbah Board on Monday apprehended 19 alleged homosexuals at a popular event centre for supposedly engaging in same-sex marriage.

The Commander General of the Sharia enforcement agency, Sheikh Harun Muhammad Ibn Sina, told journalists that the suspects were arrested after intelligence gathering.

Sina said that the suspects, including 15 females and four males were apprehended by the personnel of the board a few minutes before the alleged gay wedding commenced.

He said that the 19 alleged homosexuals, who were all in their early twenties, had converged to witness the supposed marriage of two among them who, according to Sina, had agreed to get married.

According to the Hisbah boss, luck ran out for them when the men of the board invaded the event centre and arrested them all.

Sina told journalists that the alleged couple narrowly escaped from the dragnet of the board a few minutes after the Hisbah personnel arrived at the purported wedding venue.

Sina noted that the organiser of the event, a 21-year-old who is presently under interrogation at the board headquarters, had pledged to assist the board with credible information to get the whereabouts of the suspected fleeing couple.

The Hisbah commander-general maintained that the board would hand over the 19 currently in their custody to the police after the conclusion of their investigation.
