Many believe that the legal profession and its practitioners are typically underprivileged. Ironically, some lawyers have made fortunes in the course of their profession.

It will surprise many that there are high numbers of incredibly wealthy lawyers, but they also happen to be the best in the legal business.

Below is a list of the top wealthiest lawyers in Nigeria

5. Adewunmi Ogunsanya (SAN) – $260 Million

Adewunmi is a well-known attorney from Lagos. He attended the University of Kent in Canterbury, United Kingdom. 

He serves as Multichoice Nigeria LTD’s chairman (they own brands such as Supersport, GOTV, and DSTV). Additionally, he oversees the Trocadero group of businesses as chairman.

He is one of Nigeria’s wealthiest lawyers and is worth $260 million.

4. John Olatinde Ayeni – $600 Million

Ayeni, a native of Kogi holds a degree from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. The lawyer, businessman, and philanthropist attended a Baptist secondary school. In 1991, he received a call to the bar.

Surprisingly, he obtained most of his wealth—or, perhaps more accurately, all of it—from the legal profession. He has served as legal counsel for numerous reputable businesses.

He once served on the Nigerian Legal Aid Council. He is among Nigeria’s top 5 wealthiest lawyers and is thought to have a net worth of $600 million.

3. Babatunde Folawiyo – $650 Million

Babatunde, an indigene of Lagos, attended the University of London in England and earned his law master’s degree.

He runs his own business and is the group’s director. He also attended the London School of Economics for additional certifications.

His company is involved with real estate, shipping, agriculture, and energy. After his father passed away in 2008, he assumed control of the business. His net worth is estimated at $650 million.

2. Afe Babalola (CON, OFR, SAN) – $680 Million

Afe Babalola is one of Nigeria’s richest SANS. He is an Ekiti State native who studied at the University of London in England. He founded and owned Afe Babalola University, Ekiti. 

Despite owning a private university, he continues to practice law. He is also interested in agriculture and once owned one of Nigeria’s largest farms.

He made significant contributions to the Nigerian legal system by ensuring that the innocent receive justice. His net worth is estimated to be around $680 million.

1. Adewale Tinubu – $700 million

Adewale is Nigeria’s wealthiest lawyer. He was born in Lagos State and graduated from the University of Liverpool in England.

The Lagos State lawyer is the Chief Executive Officer of Oando Oil, one of Nigeria’s largest companies, and had a significant role in its establishment.

Despite coming from a wealthy family, Adewale still grinds himself to amass his fortune.

He is related to the former Lagos governor and the APC presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu. He is worth $700 million.
