Biography

Ladi Balogun is a banker, investor, philanthropist, and the Group Chief Executive of FCMB Group Plc.

Ladi Balogun was born on April 12, 1972. He is 50 years old as of 2022.

The astute banker served as First City Monument Bank’s group managing director and CEO between 2005 and 2015.

Ladi is the first son of Subomi Balogun, the billionaire founder. of FCMB

Education

After his elementary and secondary education, Ladi headed to the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, where he bagged a degree in Economics.

He also possesses an MBA from Harvard Business School, United States of America.

Career

After Ladi graduated from the University of East Anglia in 1993, he began his professional career at Deutsche Bank in the United Kingdom until 1995.

He then went to work for Citibank in the United States, where he worked until 1996. In 1996, he returned to Nigeria, where he became the executive assistant to the chairman of First City Monument Bank Limited. He served as the bank’s CEO from 2007 to 2017.

In 2007, he oversaw FCMB’s purchases and mergers with the Cooperative Development Bank, Midas Bank, and Nigerian American Bank (for the Nigerian subsidiary of Bank Boston).

He also oversaw the acquisition of FinBank Nigeria in 2012. 

He was appointed Group Chief Executive of FCMB Group Plc in March 2017. He was named Chairman of Legacy Pension Managers (Legacy Pensions Ltd.) in 2018 and later renamed FCMB Pensions Limited.

Ladi reportedly divorced his wife, Banke Balogun, over irreconcilable differences. According to an online source, Banke was alleged to not be submissive in the marriage and couldn’t fulfil the roles of dutiful wife, friend, lover, and confidant to her husband.

It was also alleged that Banke’s mother inlaw had too much influence in the marriage.
