Ekiti House of Assembly speaker, Afuye, is dead; aged 66

Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, is reportedly dead at the age of 66.

The speaker according to reports was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he later died on Wednesday.

He represented Ikere Constituency 1 at the State’s House of Assembly.

His death was confirmed by a member of the House who spoke to The Punch that he was rushed to the hospital after developing an illness.

He said, “This is shocking. Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye was at the House of Assembly on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, so his death is devastating to us. It is a rude shock.

“We learnt he developed sudden complications in the morning (Wednesday) and was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Afuye, a former commissioner in the state, was in the Assembly between 2007 and 2011 and was spending his second term in the Assembly with the tenure billed to expire in June of next year.
