1. Nigeria is at high risk of importing Ebola from Uganda – NCDC warn [NewsWireNGR]

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has warned that Nigeria is at high risk of importing Ebola from Uganda which recently declared an outbreak of the disease.

The NCDC in a statement released on Tuesday October 4, said its multi-sectoral national emerging viral haemorrhagic diseases technical working group (NEVHD TWG), in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, has conducted a rapid risk assessment to guide in-country preparedness activities.

The agency however added that Nigeria has the capacity to respond effectively in the event of an outbreak. Read more.

2. Billionaire Femi Otedola’s Geregu Power completes listing on Nigerian Exchange at a price of N100 per share [NewsWireNGR]

Geregu Power Plc, owned by Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, successfully listed its shares on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) today, Oct. 5, at a price of N100 ($0.231) per share.

According to a press release issued to newsmen, 2.5 billion ordinary shares of Geregu were listed at N100 ($0.231) per share on the NGX under the Utility sector and Electric Power Generation sub-sector, with the trading symbol, GEREGU.

The completion of Geregu’s listing on the Nigerian Exchange makes it the first successor company from the electricity companies privatized in Nigeria in 2013 to be listed on the exchange. Read more.

3. INEC gov list: Litigation kicks 14 APC, PDP, LP candidates out [Punch Newspaper]

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates that will contest the governorship and houses of assembly election in 28 states of the federation in the 2023 elections.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the list contained 18 political parties that fielded 837 candidates and their running mates for the 28 governorship elections.

Also, the statement indicated that 10,231 candidates would vie for 993 seats in the state assembly elections.

4. Billionaire banker Herbert Wigwe’s Access Holdings gets majority share in Finibanco Angola [NewsWireNGR]

Access Holdings Plc, a pan-African financial services conglomerate led by Nigerian multimillionaire banking tycoon Herbert Wigwe, is set to take control of the majority shareholding of Finibanco Angola S.A. following the purchase of a 51-percent stake in the Luanda-based bank.

This was disclosed by Professor Usman Yusuf, Secretary, Chief of Defense Staff Action Committee (CDSAC), on Wednesday.

He said; “I am pleased to announce to the nation and the world that at 1600Hrs. (4:00pm) today, Wednesday 5-10-2022, the seven-man Presidential Committee assembled by the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General L E O Irabor, secured the release and took custody of all the 23 remaining passengers held hostage by Boko Haram Terrorists following the attack on the Abuja to Kaduna train on 28-3-2022.
