An Ikeja special offences court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced Nollywood actor, Olarewaju James, to 16 years in prison for sexual assault involving a minor.

Oluwatoyin Taiwo, the judge presiding over the case convicted Baba Ijesha of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault in a two-hour judgment.

A Yoruba star actress, Iyabo Ojo, was a strong voice during the time the news of Baba Ijesha’s offence gained media attention.

Some elders in the industry however condemned her outburst and the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) barred its members from engaging with her.

Yomi Fabiyi, an ally of Baba Ijesha, also released a movie ‘Oko Iyabo’, which mirrored the sexual assault trial and the crisis that generated from the case.

Fabiyi was also suspended by TAMPAN for producing a movie which was derogatory to Iyabo Ojo.

Following the court verdict sentencing Baba Ijesha to 16 years imprisonment, some Nigerians have showered Iyabo Ojo for standing by the victim’s foster mother, Princess despite rebuke from the big names in the industry.

Reacting to the development, @DAMIADENUGA said; “Iyabo Ojo has been vindicated with this baba ijesha sentencing. Remember how the likes of Jide Kosoko tried to bully her for standing firm with Princess.”

Also, @kofoworola_aa, said; “Iyabo Ojo when others in the industry were mute, she picked a side and was loud with her support even when it felt like she was alone. She was at the forefront, went to the station and insisted on them not releasing him. If not for her, the story would have died down”.
