1. APC primary: Lagos, Borno lose jumbo delegates, party shifts senatorial poll [Punch Newspaper]

The refusal of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to sign the Electoral Act amendment bill that would have permitted statutory delegates to vote has altered the voting strength of some states.

Section 12.1 of the All Progressives Congress constitution says members of the national convention shall include members of the board of trustees, national chairman and all members of the national executive committee, serving and past presidents, vice presidents, serving and past governors and deputy governors who are members of the party, serving and former members of the National Assembly, members of the state working committees, all local government chairmen along with three elected delegates from each of the 774 local government areas.

This came to the fore on Monday as the party again shifted it senatorial primary from May 26 to May 27.

With the President’s refusal to sign the bill, the number of delegates has dropped from 7, 800 to about 2, 340. The 2,340 consist of three delegates from each of the 774 local governments in the country and six area councils in Abuja.

2. 2023: CBN governor, Emefiele, withdraws suit against INEC, Malami [NewsWireNGR]

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Monday withdrew the suit he filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation over his presidential ambition.

Emefiele, through his counsel, S.T. Maliki, told Justice Ahmed Mohammed that a notice of discontinuance had been filed and served on the defendants in the matter. Read more.

3. Gunmen not unknown: Police laments sabotage by Anambra indigenes [NewsWireNGR]

Anambra State Police Command has lamented the reluctance of indigenes of various communities in the state to volunteer information about the activities of criminals in their areas.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, stated this in a press conference on Monday, saying that there was nothing unknown about the gunmen terrorising Anambra State to warrant the ‘unknown gunmen’ tag.

The commissioner also, while reacting to rumours that the slain Anambra lawmaker, Hon Okey Okoye was killed because of refusal to pay ransom, said there was no truth in the insinuation. Read more.

4. In search of help, group visits Obasanjo, presents him crocodile [NewsWireNGR]

The National Rubber Producers, Processors and Marketing Association of Nigeria (NARPPMAN) in Osun State has presented a life crocodile to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Members of the association led by the chairman, Evangelist Oluwatosin Jeremiah visited the former head of state to seek his help in rejuvenating the rubber industry.

They held a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Read more.

5. Two months after terrorist attack, flights resume at Kaduna Airport [NewsWireNGR]

Commercial flights resumed on Monday at the Kaduna International Airport two months after it was attacked by bandits.

The bandits had on March 26 launched an attempted invasion of the facility, killing a private security guard attached to the Nigerian Airspace management Agency near the outer perimeter fence. Read more.

6. Ned Nwoko wins PDP Senate ticket for Delta North [NewsWireNGR]

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced Prince Chinedu Nwoko as winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Delta North Senatorial District for 2023 general election.

The Commission said Nwoko defeated his opponent, Mr. Paul Osaji, a business mogul, in the Senate Primary held in Asaba with 242 votes as against 67 votes polled by his opponent. Read more.
