1. FG approves Lekki-Epe airport, projects five million passengers [NewsWireNGR]

The Federal Government said on Monday that the Lekki-Epe international airport, upon completion, would cater for about five million air travelling passengers around Lekki, Ajah, and Epe axis of Lagos State annually.

This was as Lagos State officially received the Federal Government’s instrument authorising it to commence the airport project.

While officially handling over the approval  letter for development of the  airport to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday at the opening ceremony of the 2022 edition of the Lagos Economic Summit tagged, ‘Ehingbeti’ in Victoria Island, Lagos, the Aviation Minister, Hadi Abubakar Sirika,  said the state was qualified to embark on the project, looking at the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos. 2. Governor Nyesom Wike appoints 14,000 Advisers, 319 ward liaison officers [NewsWireNGR]

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has appointed 14,000 advisers for various political units in the state.

The governor also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.

3. By 2052, Lagos will be Africa’s model mega city — Sanwo-Olu [NewsWireNGR]

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said there is a 30-year-plan to make the state Africa’s model mega city.

Sanwo-Olu said this on Tuesday during the 9th edition of Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit, held at Victoria Island.

He said that the government had made concerted efforts towards conceptualising and developing a comprehensive 30-year plan.

According to him, the Lagos State Development Plan 2052 has the ambition of transforming Lagos into Africa’s Model Mega City. Read more.

4. 2023: Why I rejected offer to be Obi’s VP — Shagari [NewsWireNGR]

A former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari, has spoken on his reason for rejecting to be the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party after he was approached.

Shagari speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said he declined the opportunity because he did not believe Obi stood a chance in 2023.

“The Labour party contacted me and requested if I would like to be the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi,” the PDP chieftain said.

“And I looked at the political scenario, what Labour party is, and decided that I cannot be the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi.” Read more.

5. INEC deletes 2.7 million Nigerians for double registration [NewsWireNGR]

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday said it detected 2.7 million cases of double registration carried out during the last Continuous Voter Registration and that the affected persons have been deleted from the voter register.

The INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at a National Endowment for Democracy event in Washington DC in the United States.

The spokesperson to the Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, confirmed the development to our correspondent.

The chairman, who raised concerns about security challenges across the country, assured stakeholders that the commission will do its best. Read more.
