1. Emefiele heads for court as anger spreads over presidential ambition [Punch Newspaper]

Senior lawyers and top politicians have stated that Emefiele’s continuous stay as the CBN governor was dangerous to the economy.

They said this as the Chairman of Ward 6 in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State,  Mr Nduka Erikpume, in a telephone chat with one of our correspondents on Sunday, said the CBN governor had registered as an APC member.

When asked whether Emefiele had registered in the APC,  Erikpume said, “Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member.”

Amid widespread condemnations of his alleged presidential ambition, the CBN governor had headed to a Federal High Court in Abuja to seek a constitutional interpretation on his non-resignation while pursuing his political interests.

Sources said that the CBN governor had reached out to a constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Dr Mike Ozekhome (SAN), to seek interpretation of the constitution and public service rules on public servants seeking elective positions while in office.

2. Bandits kill 55 in fresh Zamfara attacks [Vanguard Newspaper]

At least 55 persons have been reportedly killed in separate deadly attacks by bandits in two local government areas of Zamfara State, weekend. 

About 48 persons were reportedly killed in three communities of Sabon Gari Damri, Damri and Kalahe in Bakura Local Government Area of the state.

3. Sokoto Governor, Tambuwal, calls for CBN’s Emefiele resignation [NewsWireNGR]

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has called on the Federal Government to effect the resignation of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Tambuwal, a Presidential aspirant on the platform of PDP, made the call on Saturday, in Jalingo, shortly after interacting with the party delegates ahead of  PDP presidential primaries.

The governor said that Emefiele’s continued stay in office, after openly identifying himself with a political party, should not be encouraged. Read more.

4. Senator Arthur Nzeribe, is dead [NewsWireNGR]

Renowned politician and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Arthur Nzeribe, is dead.

He was 83 years old at the time of his death. The former lawmaker who represented Imo West district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly died on Sunday, family sources tell newsmen.

According to them, the former senator died in his country home in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State after a protracted sickness that left him bedridden for a long time. Read more.

5. Nigeria’s Cinema industry recorded N582m revenue in April alone [NewsWireNGR]

The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) on Sunday said that it generated N582 million from tickets sold across the country in April.

Its National President, Mr Patrick Lee, disclosed this. He said; “The total ticket sales for the month of April across cinemas in Nigeria is N582,011,276.00.

“Comparing the sales with April 2021, there is an increase of 50 per cent as the sales for that was N388,420,832.00.

“22 Nollywood films shown in April accounted for 43 per cent of ticket sales, with King of Thieves as the outliner – 23 per cent, whereas 19 Hollywood films accounted for about 54 per cent with two films grossing over N50 million.” Read more.
