1. Don’t abandon my goverment for elections, Buhari begs Ministers, Others [NewsWireNGR]

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned ministers, permanent secretaries, and heads of government agencies not to leave governance for electioneering.

He issued the warning in Abuja on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Ministerial Performance Review Retreat, cautioning that ”any infraction will be viewed seriously”.

2. ASUU Strike: ABU management announces October 24 for resumption [NewsWireNGR]

The management of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, has scheduled the resumption of academic activities for October 24.

The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwal Umar, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Zaria.

He said that the resumption followed suspension of the eight months’ strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Umar said that the Senate of the university approved  the resumption date at its 516th (Emergency) Meeting. Read more.

3. Ekiti government confirms death of House Speaker, Afuye [NewsWireNGR]

The Ekiti State government, on Wednesday, confirmed the death of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye.

According to a statement by Yinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, Afuye died at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a Cardiac arrest.

The late Speaker, 66, was a former Commissioner, the Ekiti State Ministry of Information and two-time member of the State Assembly. Read more.

4. ASUU: FG appeals to NLC not to ‘unnecessarily’ oppose CONUA, NAMDA [NewsWireNGR]

The Federal Government has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to rescind its opposition to the registration of two new academic unions in the Nigerian public university system.

Sen. Chris Ngige, Ministerof Labour and Employment, made the call in a statement signed by Mr Olajide Oshundun, Head, Press and Public Relations, in the ministry on Tuesday in Abuja.

5. ‘Blood on my hand was my period, I didn’t kill Ataga — Chindinma recants [NewsWireNGR]

Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect, fingered in the gruesome killing of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga, has denied killing the deceased in a confessional video that was played before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Tuesday, October 18.

This was her claim when the court resumed watching of the recorded video footage of the confessional statement of the prime suspect.

In the video recording played before the court, Chidinma denied knowledge of who killed the deceased. According to her, she went out on the said day and by the time she returned, she saw Ataga on the floor and she quickly picked her things and left because she was scared. Read more.
