1. No pact to cede presidency to South West, APC bigwigs insist [Vanguard Newspaper]

Some top shots of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have faulted reports that an unwritten agreement and understanding among founders of the party in 2013 ceded the 2023 presidential ticket of the party to the South-West geo-political zone.

One of the bigwigs, who played crucial roles in the formation of the APC, and in the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the party’s presidential primaries in Lagos in 2014 and the election proper in 2015, said: “Nothing like that happened. There was no meeting whatsoever to talk about ceding power to the South-West.”

2. Massive job cut looms as dollar hits N590, forex scarcity bites harder [Punch Newspaper]

The lingering foreign exchange scarcity in the country has continued to worsen even as the exchange rate on the parallel market is inching towards N590/$1, The PUNCH has learnt.

The development may lead to massive job loss in the manufacturing industry, among other sectors, according to the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.

3. Over 200 houses, 32 shops burnt, 34 killed in deadly Kaduna killings [NewsWireNGR]

The number of people killed by bandits in Kaura local government area of Kaduna State during a series of attacks on Sunday has risen to 34.

This toll was confirmed by the Kaduna State Government on Tuesday. Security reports revealed that a bus was attacked by a mob in Agban, and the conductor was killed. Similarly, some places of worship were torched as tension rose in Kafanchan. The killings led to government declaring curfew in the affected local governments. Read more.

4. Bamise: Court remands BRT driver for alleged rape, murder [NewsWireNGR]

A High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered that a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Ominnikoron, be remanded in a correctional centre.

5. Sack of Lawmakers: Police barricade Cross River Assembly gate [NewsWireNGR]

The Police on Tuesday barricaded the entrance of the Cross River House of Assembly Complex in Calabar, following Monday’s court judgment that sacked 20 lawmakers in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that workers of the assembly and others who had businesses to transact at the complex, were prevented from gaining access into the premises opposite the U.J. Esuene Stadium. Read more.

6. Mother allegedly sets 10-year-old daughter on fire over phone [NewsWireNGR]

A woman has been arrested for allegedly setting her 10-year-old daughter on fire.

The mother of five, Aisha Tijani, was arrested on Sunday by the Ogun state police command.

The Command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Tijani was arrested following report lodged at Mowe police station by one Moroof Ayinde that she poured “petrol on her daughter and setting her ablaze.” Read more.
