A woman has been arrested for allegedly setting her 10-year-old daughter on fire.

The mother of five, Aisha Tijani, was arrested on Sunday by the Ogun state police command.

The Command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Tijani was arrested following report lodged at Mowe police station by one Moroof Ayinde that she poured “petrol on her daughter and setting her ablaze.”

The man had also informed the police that the mother was angry because the victim gave a phone she seized from one of her children back to the owner.

The Ogun State police image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Tuesday that upon the report, the DPO Mowe division, CSP Folashade Tanaruno, moved to the scene with detectives and arrested the suspect.

Oyeyemi said the daughter, who was badly burnt, was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).

“On interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to have been separated from the father of the children, explained to the police that she didn’t know what came over her when she was carrying out the wicked act,” Oyeyemi explained.

The woman is to be investigated at the State CIID as ordered by the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole.
