1. Nigeria borrowed N6.64tn, serviced debt with N2.93tn in 2021, says DMO [Punch Newspaper Headline]
THE Debt Management Office on Thursday said Nigeria’s total public debt stock increased to N39.56tn in 2021 from N32.92tn in 2020.
The Director-General, DMO, Patience Oniha, said this at a media briefing in Abuja.
According to her, the total debt includes new borrowings by the Federal Government and the sub-nationals.
2. EFCC arrests ex-gov Obiano after handover to Soludo [Vanguard Newspaper Headline]
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arrested the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.
He was arrested at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, at about 8:30 pm last night.
The arrest came barely hours after attending the inauguration of his successor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

The Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc, Tony Elumelu, has stated that businesses in Nigeria were suffering and citizens should hold leaders accountable.
Elumelu noted that despite being a rich country, over 90% of Nigerians lived in hardship and poverty.

4. Why Senate is mandating banks to report deposits above N5m to EFCC [NewsWireNGR]
The Senate Wednesday passed a bill to amend the Money Laundering Act 2011 seeking to make it mandatory for banks and other financial institutions to report, in writing, to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, any single transaction or lodgment in excess of N5m for an individual and N10m for a corporate body.
Section 11(3) of the bill provides that “any financial institution or designated non-financial business and profession that contravenes the provisions of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of not less than N250,000 and not more than N1m for each day the contravention continues.” Read more.

A member of the Ogun House of Assembly, Mr Sola Adams, has cried out over invasion of farmlands by elephants which also injured a farmer at Itashin in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.
