1. PDP, CSOs lampoon FG as NFIU uncovers 96 terrorism financiers [Punch Newspaper]

The Federal Government says the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit has uncovered 96 financiers of terrorism as well as the 424 associates and supporters of the financiers.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

In a swift reaction, however, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party said it was hypocritical of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to talk about terror financing.

2. Terrorism: ISWAP poised to take over Nigeria, Zulum warns [Vanguard Newspaper]

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State yesterday raised the alarm that the Islamic States of West African Province, ISWAP, is  poised to take over the country.

Consequently, the governor appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to hire international mercenaries to help the country tackle the menace.

3. FG introduces new policy to address Nigeria’s high fertility rate [NewsWireNGR]

The federal government has launched the Revised National Policy on Population for Sustainable Development to address the high fertility rate of the nation.

Along with the Revised Policy, President Muhammadu Buhari also inaugurated National Council on Population Management (NCPM). The Council has him as the chairman, the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo as the deputy chairman and Heads of relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies as members. Read more.

4. Hoodlums attack Aregbesola’s campaign office ahead of Osun Governorship election primaries [NewsWireNGR]

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs, on Thursday evening, attacked Oranmiyan House, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola’s campaign office located in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The thugs, according to eyewitnesses, about five in number with guns, were allegedly shooting directly into the four-storey building.

5. Kwara Govt shuts Baptist School after violence over Hijab [NewsWireNGR]

The Kwara State Government on Thursday shut down the government-owned Oyun Baptist Secondary School, Ijagbo in Oyun Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, condemned the fresh violence that broke out in the school following the continued denial of the use of hijab by the authorities of the institution. Read more.
