My teacher told me I won’t be anything – Singer, Davido

David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido, a Nigerian-American singer and songwriter, has said that while in school, his teacher told him he won’t amount to anything in life.

Davido who is the founder of Davido Music Worldwide made the revelation during an interview with “Tea with Tay” podcast.

The conversation starts with the music star talking about the recent loss of his aide, Obama DMW. Then he goes to his childhood, the special birthday request just as he reveals his connection with people, friends, and his music.

In explaining his life, he said, “I know how bad my grades were, I know how in school (back in secondary school) I was like the most unlikely to succeed, so you know.”

He continued, “In my secondary school, my French teacher told me I won’t be anything in this life” he stated during the interview with Taymisan, the Presenter of the podcast.

” I am not going to lie, I was a bad kid mehn”, the singer admitted. He however procceded to explain that he was a “bad kid with good intentions”.

When asked by the presenter what he meant by a bad kid with good intentions, he added “bad kid, it won’t be like going against my parents “.

Davido is the youngest of five siblings and his father’s second-born son. He attended the British International School in Lagos, Nigeria, and at the age of 16, he moved back to the US to study business administration at Oakwood University in Alabama.

The presenter asked why he genuinely liked people and David said he is drawn to people because, during his formative years in Nigeria, it was just him and his dad, so he had to build a network of friends to keep him going while his other siblings were in the US and the UK.

“My house was just me and my dad since my mum passed away and my dad was always not there so it was just me and my friends – I am a people person” he stated.

Davido won the Next Rated award in 2012 at The Headies after releasing “Dami Duro“, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo(2012). Between 2013 and 2015, he also released a number of hit singles and in January 2016 he signed a record deal with Sony Music.

He then founded the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), the label is home to recording acts, such as Dremo, Yonda, Peruzzi, Idowest, DJ Ecool, Danagog, B-Red, Deekay, May D, Deinde, Ayanfe, and Liya. It also houses producer Fresh VDM, and Speroach Beatz. Artists affiliated and formerly signed to the label, include Ichaba, Lola Rae, Lil Frosh, and Mayorkun.
