Did Wizkid unfollow PUMA because of Davido’s endorsement? — Nigerians react
The rivalry between fans of Wizkid and Davido took a new twist on Monday after a Twitter user alleged: “Wizkid unfollowed PUMA on IG, 24 hours after PUMA announced Davido as their first Nigerian Global Ambassador.”
NewsWireNGR had earlier reported that Davido became a cultural ambassador for his native Nigeria as well as a prominent voice of human rights on the continent.
“Growing up, I saw PUMA play an important part in African sports, sponsoring many different football federations”, said Davido said.
“I also saw the kind of family PUMA had built with the likes of Usain Bolt, Maradona, Neymar, Jay Z, Nipsey, Rihanna, Lewis Hamilton among other superstars and I thought, that’s an amazing family to be a part of!”.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Davido to the PUMA family!” said Johan Kuhlo, PUMA’s General Manager EEMEA Distribution in a statement Friday.
“Throughout our history, PUMA has had strong roots in Africa, football and beyond. Signing Davido is both a clear commitment to Africa as a key market and a sign that African culture is becoming more and more relevant globally”.
In reaction to the allegation levelled by the Twitter user @Rozapepper01, some fans said Wizkid has all right to unfollow the sports wears brand while others referred to it as jealousy.
@legendr3_lenz: Wizkid is a brand. If he chose to not follow them, it’s because the deal has expired. It’s like if I wan win giveaway and they say I must follow one account, I’ll follow nah,after winning abeg why should I still follow when I’m not interested in the content, I followed for gvaway.

Meanwhile, it is yet unconfirmed whether the allegation is true or not. The poster didn’t provide any evidence to support her claim.
