Why Made in Lagos Album “helped me through a tough time” – Wizkid explains

Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats superstar born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid had an interview with the Vogue where he talked abut life growing up and his family as well as his Music.

In the interview, Wizkid now called BigWIZ explained that, “Being away from Nigeria and my family for so long brought me to my darkest point” when he explained what inspired his Made in lagos Album.

Made in Lagos was released during the second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Grammy award nominee said he found himself stranded in London during lockdown.

“That’s why I feel this album means the same thing to me as it does to a lot of other people – it really helped me through a tough time,” he says.

It was only earlier this year that the singer was finally able to return home and introduce Zion to Boluwatife, his 10-year-old son from a previous relationship, for the first time. “To see the two of them playing together, that almost made me cry. It was a blessing.”

Made in Lagos is the fourth studio album by Nigerian singer Wizkid. It was released on 30 October 2020 by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records.

The album features guest appearances from Burna BoySkeptaH.E.R.Ella Mai, Tay Iwar, Projexx, TemsDamian Marley, and Terri. The deluxe edition was released on 27 August 2021. It features additional guest appearances from Buju and Justin Bieber.

In support of the album, Wizkid embarked on the Made in Lagos Tour (2021–2022).

The album received a nomination at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album.
