Alex Ekwueme Federal University staff secure N3.4bn research grants

Ten academic staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo from various faculties have secured research grants for the institution amounting to the sum of N3.4bn locally and internationally in 2021.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Sunday Elom, who disclosed this, on Monday, during a press briefing to mark the 6th convocation ceremonies billed for December 14, 2021, said the feat was a huge testimony that the academic staff of the university were doing very well.

“Our academic staff are doing well in the area of securing research grants. In this year 2021, ten academic staff from the various faculties obtained research grants locally and internationally amounting to a total of 3.4BN,” Professor Elom said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the University would be graduating a total of 900 graduands in 10 faculties out of which 20 persons made First Class while 306 made Second Class Upper.

He further explained that 494 made Second Class Lower, 79 made Third Class while one person graduated with a Pass.

“Before the convocation on Monday, 13th December 2021, there will be a convocation lecture titled “Cost-sharing in Funding University Education in Nigeria.” The lecture will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Onyechi Obidoa while the event will be chaired by Professor Charles Chike Onochie, former Vice-Chancellor, Renaissance University, Ugbawka, Enugu State.

“Also, as part of the programme of activities for the 6th convocation ceremony, on Thursday, 9th December 2021, 68 pioneer graduating students of our Faculty of Education will be inducted into the teaching profession by the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.
