Gunmen kidnap farmworkers in Kogi, kill one

Gunmen have kidnapped farmworkers at Lagbeta community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi state.

The gunmen who kidnapped six family members also killed a man who tried to escape according to a source in the community.

A relation of the victims, Ishaya Bulus, said the victims were “busy harvesting beniseeds when the kidnappers suddenly appeared and rounded them up at gunpoint.

“It was while they were moving the victims into the forest that one of them attempted to escape and one of the kidnappers opened fire on him,” he said.

This was not the first time such an incident happened in the state this year (2021).

In September, three poultry farmers were kidnapped in Kabba area of the state and demanded N5 million each to release their victims.

It was also discovered that one other villager, Mr Tunji Mesoniale was shot dead around the poultry farm where the three people were kidnapped.
