Gunmen attack Anambra lawmaker, Azubogu’s convoy, kill driver

Gunmen on Thursday attacked the convoy of a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Chris Azubogu, in Anambra.

Hon. Azubogu represents Nnewi North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber.

According to reports, the lawmaker was attacked on his way to Nnewi from Awka after his formal declaration for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The attack occurred in front of St Paul’s Anglican Church, Nnobi, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

An eye witness quoted by Vanguard claimed the gunmen were driving in two Sienna vehicles and one Lexus jeep.

The gunmen were also said to have collected guns from security men at Roban Stores situated along Nnewi –Nnobi road after attacking the lawmaker’s convoy and zoomed off.

The blue Toyota car with Abuja number and the black jeep with bullet holes were still at the scene of the incident while the dead driver’s body had not been removed.

Newspapers, documents bearing ‘Mr Project’, Azubogu’s pet name, were among other documents which littered the road.

This is coming lesser than 48 hours after unknown assailants killed Chike Akunyili, the husband to late ex-DG of NAFDAC, Dora Akunyili, Tuesday night at Nkpor, a suburb of the commercial city of Onitsha in Anambra State.

Reports have it that Chike Akunyili was killed while on his way to attending a memorial in honour of his late wife, Professor Dora Akunyili, in Abuja.
