How ISWAP members overpower, dislodge Nigerian soldiers in Borno

Armed men suspected to be members of the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) on Monday attacked a town in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno state.

The town, Rana, was reportedly stormed by the ISWAP fighters in the early morning of Monday as gunshots rented the air.

Soldiers of the Nigerian Army according to reports engaged the insurgents but were overpowered and dislodged.

According to The Cable, most civilians in the area ran into bushes to seek safety, while some international and local humanitarian workers stationed in the town were reportedly trapped.

Others were said to have found their way through the bush and moved towards the Cameroon border.
