Veteran Nigerian Actress, Rachel Oniga, Dies Aged 64

It is a black Saturday for the Nigerian Nollywood industry as it lost one of its best, Rachel Oniga.

At the time of filing this report, there is no official statement from associations like Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).

However, colleagues and notable celebrities have taken to social media to express their grief after hearing the sad news.

Expressing his grief, a Nigerian singer and producer, Samklef, posted on Instagram, “Sad news another legend is gone. Rip to my childhood actor @racheloniga May her soul Rest In Peace. Nollywood lost an angel,”

Also commenting, Bimbo Oshin, Nigerian actress, said “Heaven has just gained yet another beautiful soul. Aunty Rachel! Haa! I am speechless. . . . Rest in peace Aunty This life sha!”

Rachel Oniga acted the Aunty Ajoke role in the EbonyLife Films’ Chief Daddy movie which grossed a 2018 record-breaking N235,469,368.

The cause of death of the veteran actress who came into the limlight when she was cast in the Yoruba movie Owo Blow was yet unknown at the time of filing the report.

Rachel Oniga born May 23, 1957, before going joining the Nollywood industry worked briefly at Ascoline Nigeria Limited, a Dutch Consultant Company.

According to Wikipedia, some of the movies she was cast include: Sango (1997); Out of Bounds (1997); Owo Blow (1997); Passion of Mind (2004); Power Of Sin; Restless Mind; Doctor Bello (2013); 30 Days in Atlanta (2014); The Royal Hibiscus Hotel (2017); Power of 1 (2018); The Wedding Party; My Village People (2021).
