Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema has tested positive for Covid-19.
The club in a statement on Friday revealed this as they announced the France international would not be joining the Blancos squad as they begin the preseason under new coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
He would begin his isolation and join the team once he tests negative.
A brief statement on the Blancos’ official website reads: “Real Madrid C. F. confirm that our player Karim Benzema has tested positive for Covid-19.”
”He will not be cleared to rejoin the rest of Ancelotti’s squad before a negative test has been posted.”
The announcement of Benzema’s contamination comes as cases have risen sharply in several countries, including Spain and France, due to the Delta variant.
Benzema was on duty for France at the Euro 2020 earlier in June. He hit four goals at the tournament, only one shy of top scorer and former teammate at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo who scored five goals for Portugal.
