Founder Of Udala Football Club, Secretary killed by gunmen in Anambra

The Management of Anambra Independent Football League (AIFL) has confirmed the death of its Secretary, Godsent Eriobu, after an attack by armed men at Eke-Agu Market, Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Rev. Obinna Dike, Chairman of AIFL who confirmed the death of the league secretary, also reported earlier that Philip Udala, the Chairman of Udala FC, had not been seen nor reached on the phone since the incident occurred on Tuesday. 

The death of the Chairman Philip Udala has unfortunately been confirmed. 

Udala, the grassroots football development guru met his untimely death when his convoy ran into a team of armed gunmen at Eke-Agu Market junction in Abatete, Idemili North Local Area.

The gunmen had reportedly attacked a local police station and were fleeing the scene when they met the convoy of Udala in Abatete.

Godsent Eriobu, Udala FC Manager and Secretary of Anambra Independent League (AIFL) who was also in the convoy was equally shot and died instantly at the scene on Tuesday.

Rev. Fr Obinna Dike, Chairman of AIFL who confirmed the death of Udala on Wednesday said the amateur league had lost two important members of the football family.

“So sad, our worst fears are becoming reality, we lost them,” he said in a text.

The Police Command in the state confirmed the incident but did not speak on number of casualties
