To prevent the scheduled Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos state from holding, the Nigerian security operatives have been deployed en-mass to strategic locations in the state.

The action has resulted in heavy traffic in some areas of the state.

Recall the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Odumosu, and the Lagos state government have warned against the conduct of the rally.

However, Yoruba secessionist agitators; Chief Sunday Adeyemo, well known as “Sunday Igboho” and the Ilana Omo Oodua group, have insisted the rally will hold as planned.

NewsWireNGR gathered that the show of force by security operatives was conspicuous at the Gani Fawenhimi Freedom Park, at Ojota, in Lagos state, the venue of the rally.

Some of the security agencies deployed are: Nigerian Police Force operatives, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Department of State Services (DSS).

NewsWireNGR had earlier reported that barely 24 hours after the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his residence at Soka in Ibadan, Oyo State, and also declared him wanted, Sunday Igboho insisted the Yoruba Rally will hold as scheduled for July 3.

According to the DSS, the raid on Igboho’s residence was based “on intelligence that he had stockpiled arms in the place. On approach to the residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine (9) men, suspected to be Igboho’s guards.

“Adeyemo/Igboho is advised to turn himself in to the nearest security agency. Those cheering and eulogising him may appeal to or advise him to do the needful. He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law”.

Defiant Igboho speaking through his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki said, “The 3rd of July Mega rally will go as planned. All arrangements for the rally has been planned and nothing has changed” while boasting he “will be back stronger”.

According to reports, CP Hakeem Odumosu is leading the police team on patrol, while NSCDC Lagos Commandant, Eweka Okoro, is leading the corps around strategic areas to prevent any form of gathering by organisers of the rally, being led by Sunday Igboho.
