BET Awards: Burna Boy makes history as he wins Best International Act third time in a row

Grammy award winner Burna Boy made history on Sunday as he became the first artiste to win the Best International Act at the 2021 BET awards for the third time in a row.

The Ye crooner edged fellow Nigerian singer Wizkid, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Emicida from Brazil, Headie One and Young T & Bugsey from the UK, and Youssoupha from France.

He had earlier won the award in in 2019, 2020, and now in 2021.

The BET Awards is an American award show that was established to celebrate Afr excellence across music, television, film and sports.

He was present at the ceremony and collected the award himself after he missed the opportunity in 2019.

“I made it this time to collect my award myself,” he said before he taught the audience a bit of Pidgin English.

“I want to teach you guys a little bit about where you are all really from,” he said with his mum standing beside him before urging them to speak a phrase in Pidgin English.

“Three-peat, that’s my third one, back to back,” he said in a video on BET’s social media page.
