Alleged sexual assault: Baba Ijesha pleads not guilty to six count charge

Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka alias Baba Ijesha has pleaded not guilty to a six count charge of allegedly assaulting two minors. He was arraigned at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja.

Baba Ijesha who has been in custody since his arrest on April 22, is standing trial before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.

The Nollywood actor was previously arraigned on June 16 at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, but his bail application was dismissed and he was ordered to be remanded in custody, due to indications that the matter is now before the High Court.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution filed a six count charge against the accused which include alleged Indecent Treatment of a 7yr old between 2013-2014 and another 14 year Child in April this year, other related offences are alleged Sexual Assault and Attempted Sexual Assault by Penetration contrary to Sections 135, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 as well as Sexual Assault by Penetration contrary to section 259 of the state’s Criminal Law.

The director of public prosecution Olayinka Adeyemi is leading the state’s legal team, while Baba ijesha is being represented by two senior advocates of Nigeria, Babatunde Ogala and Dada Awosika, who are currently arguing his bail application.
