The leadership of the Evangelical Church of Winning All, ECWA, worldwide has thrown its weight behind the claim that Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari has become a centre of bloodshed.

The church was reacting to the controversy that has been generated from the Christmas homily by Reverend Father Kukah, the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese.

The bishop said in his message on Friday said there would have been a coup if a non-northern Muslim president does a fraction of what Buhari did.

He accused the president of institutionalising northern hegemony by “reducing others in public life to second-class status”.

The statements stirred controversy and among them was a statement by the All Progressives Congress Youth Forum that it is” unfortunate that a well respected religious leader like Bishop Kukah would choose the very period of rebirth and healing to speak of coup and war.”

Reacting to the situation through a statement authored by its General Secretary, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu in Kaduna on Tuesday, the ECWA church supported Bishop Kukah’s position.

The statement lamented the insecurity that has plagued the nation and urged the President to fulfill his campaign promises by securing the country.

It also pleaded with Nigerians and the international community to hold Buhari (whom they addressed as General) responsible if anything happens to the Bishop.

The statement reads:

“There is no denying the fact that Nigeria under General Buhari is now a centre of bloodshed. Killings, banditry, kidnappings, and all forms of insecurities are now the order of the day.

“The President should face the job for which he swore to. Mr. President, fulfill your campaign promises, secure the country, and make life better for all of us.

“The earlier this administration takes steps to address these genuine concerns and stop living in denial, the better for them and the country.

“This country belongs to all of us. And no section of this country should be made superior to the other. We are bonafide citizens with equal rights. Enough of these shenanigans.

“Some of these uncharitable groups have even called for the arrest of our revered Bishop. Arrest a man that spoke the minds of millions of Nigerian? They must be joking.

“There is nothing new about what Bishop Kukah said, the Bishop has spoken our minds, and we will resist any attempt by any group or agency of Government to harm him. Enough of this intimidation.

“We invite the international community and Nigerians to hold General Buhari and his government responsible should anything happen to Bishop Kukah.

“As a matter of fact, Nepotism under General Buhari administration is topnotch. This administration has a first-class in nepotism and maladministration.”
