Just in: Hoodlums steal mace at Ogun Assembly

Some unidentified persons have burgled the office of the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, and stole the assembly’s mace.

The mace is the official symbol of the legislature.

The Punch reports that the event happened in between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident when contacted.

The Mace is the symbol of the authority of the House of Assembly and the Speaker

At the start of each sitting day, the Mace is carried into the House by the Serjeant-at-Arms and placed on the central table.

The Mace sits on the central table as long as the House is officially meeting and the Speaker or a deputy is present.
