President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Youths Service Corps to enrol corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of NYSC, Shuaibu Ibrahim on Monday at a briefing in Abuja.

The NYSC DG mentioned that this compulsory insurance is needed because the NYSC “remains the most critical platform for mentoring Nigerian youths as drivers of national unity and development.”

He said, “I wish to use this opportunity to again express our gratitude to the security agencies and other stakeholders for their support.

“Furthermore, we have concluded arrangements with the NHIS for the enrolment of corps members into the national insurance scheme in line with a presidential directive.”

“We have also expanded huge resources on critical health needs of corps members, including footing of medical bills,” the NYSC DG said.

A new batch of corps members resume camp on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 and the prospective corps members have been mandated to have their COVID-19 tests before they gain admission into the camps.
