Police arrest suspected kidnappers, rescue female victim

The police command in Cross River State, today 7/15/2020 paraded four suspected kidnappers at the State Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The police also announced the rescue of a 38 years old woman, Cecilia Onyago, who the police rescued from the claws of kidnappers without the payment of any ransom.

Parading the suspects, DSP Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the command was able to crack the crime through intelligence gathering and assistance from members of the public.

DSP Ugbo held that the command was doing all it can to neutralize the activities of kidnappers in the state and run them out of business.

“We are working to make sure that kidnapping is no more in the State. We urge Cross Riverians to provide us with information that would enable us to work harder and pick these hoodlums wherever they may be.

The PPRO said that on July 10th, 2020, in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, a woman was kidnapped while out with her husband.

“The Police got a distress call from the people and we swung into action. In a bid to know the location where the woman was taken to, we got one suspect which led us to the arrest of other gang members.

“Right now, the suspects are in our custody, a lot of items have been recovered including two vehicles, Toyota Camry with registration number NEM 828 AY and Jetta car no LSD 879 AV and several local guns.”

DSP Ugbo added that police has been up on its duty and will continue to ensure the protection of lives and properties in the state.

“We are very happy about the success recorded because Cross River State is noted for being a place people come and relax and Police is working tirelessly to make sure the hoodlums are brought to book.

She urged members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police, by providiong tips and usefull information to apprehend criminals.
