In Lagos, New Oba of Iruland receives staff of office

Anew dawn for the people and residents of Iruland, Victoria Island area of Lagos State as their new monarch, Oba AbdulWasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, receives the instrument of office from the State Government.

Radio Nigeria , Sunday, reports that the newly crowned monarch was presented with a staff of office and certificate of appointment as the 15th Oniru of Iruland by the State Governor, Mr Babjide Sanwo-Olu at a ceremony held at the Oniru palace.

The ceremony was attended by many prominent Lagosians and  traditional rulers in Lagos, led by the Oba of Lagos and  Permanent Chairman, Traditional Council of Oba, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, while the popular musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall alias ‘K1 the Ultimate’ livened up the event virtually with his brand of music.

In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the new monarch as an outstanding Nigerian, a distinguished Lagosian and a fine gentleman.

Attesting to the new Oniru of Iruland’s skill as a technocrat par excellence, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that his experience and transformational leadership would immediately reflect in Iruland.

While giving a word of advice, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu who urged other Princes that vied for the stool of the Oba to cooperate with the new monarch for the development of Iruland, advised the Oniru to remain God-fearing, humble, accommodating and to strengthen the bond of unity among all the people of his kingdom.

The new Monarch thanked the State Governor and the people of Iruland for deeming him worthy to ascend the throne of his forebears and pledged to rule with justice and fairness.

Oba AbdulWasiu Omogbolahan Lawal also promised to ensure that Iruland remains central to the commerce and economic development of Lagos state, while sharing his vision of developing its popular housing estates.  

Prior to ascending the throne, the new monarch had over 25 years experience in the public service and was the erstwhile Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, a position he held twice as well as a former Commissioner for Housing, and Special Adviser on Development Projects.
