Niger State government has designed a system to integrate  local Islamic teachings and modern education system in the State.

The scheme which is in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is to enable the pupils (Almajirai) to acquire both western and religious knowledge in their localities.

The Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, who disclosed this when receiving  some items donated by the Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, (CACCOVID), to the state on Friday in Minna the State capital, faulted the age long system of acquiring Islamic education  where under age are sent out without parental care.

“I feel it is absolutely wrong to separate a child, three-four-five years old from home, send him to a town where he has no one to take care of him and end up in the streets where he is abused”.

The Governor who assured that State Governors of Northern Nigeria, have unanimously agreed to regulate the Sangaya system of acquiring Islamic knowledge, mentioned that proper arrangement had already been made by respective States in the region for repatriating the Almajirai to their States of origin.

While appreciating the items donated,  Governor Sani Bello said the items which are to be used in the various isolation centres designed for Almajirai in the state,  assured that the equipment will be properly handled by the team of medical personnel in the State.

The items donated to the State by CACOVID in their support to the fight against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) includes: 100 beds, 100 hospital overhead tables, one mobile x-ray machine, one ultrasound machine, two ICU beds, 20,700 pieces of medical equipment which include, 250 face shield, 1,000 protective goggles, 3,000 KN95 Face Mask, 10,000 disposable latex gloves, 500 elbow rubber loves and 1,000 PPE overall.
