COVID-19: Buhari waives import duty for medical supplies

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that import duty is waived for medical equipment and supplies in response to the #COVID19 pandemic.

This was announced in a tweet by Tolu Ogunlesi, special assistant to the president on digital and new media, on Tuesday.

Mr Ogunlesi wrote on twitter, “BREAKING | Minister of @FinMinNigeria: President @MBuhari has approved a blanket waiver of import duties for medical equipment and supplies, as part of @NigeriaGov’s efforts to strengthen health infrastructure in response to the #COVID19 pandemic”

He added that in addition to the Import Waiver, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigerian Customs to implement expedited clearing of all imported healthcare equipment and medical and pharmaceutical supplies.

According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, there has been a total of 2802 Coronavirus confirmed cases in Nigeria, 417 of these persons have been discharged and Nigeria has recorded a total of 93 deaths.
