JUST IN: Court Orders FG to Clear Aftermath of Biafran War in 45 Days

The ECOWAS Court of Justice, sitting in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, has ordered the Nigerian government to clear the aftermath of the civil war within 45 days, while asking it to pay N88billion in damages to victims.
Justice Chijioke Nwoke, delivering the ruling on Monday, ordered the Federal Government to commence clearing and evacuation of the aftermath of the civil war within 45 days.
In 2012, scores of victims of abandoned landmines, dragged the FG to the regional court, seeking compensation for damages incurred as a result of the mines and other explosive devices left behind in the southeastern region when the war ended.
They also sort that the court makes the FG rebuild areas affected by the war, including some parts of the north central region.
They had asked for N100billion as damages from the FG but were awarded N88billion.
The civil war otherwise called the Biafra war, ended over 47 years ago, on January 15, 1970.
