PHOTOS: Customs Intercepts Huge Cache of Weapons In Lagos

A huge cache of weapons has been seized at the Tin-Can Island port in Lagos State, the Nigerian Customs Service has confirmed to The Cable.

Joseph Attah, the customs spokesman, confirmed the seizure of 1,100 arms.

“We have seized 1,100 weapons at Lagos port. They came from Turkey,” he said.

“Investigation has commenced. A customs officer, who is a suspect has been arrested. A clerk there (at the Tin-Can Island command) has been arrested as well.”

The weapons were in a container marked GESU25255208, hidden among water closet sanitary wares.

Providing details, the Comptroller General of Customs, Hamid Ali said the container was not among those listed for examination.

The cache includes 600 pieces of Jojef Magnum Black Pump rifles, Jojef Magnum Silver pump action rifles, Jojef Magnum plastic single barrel hunting gun pump action rifles

On May 23, the customs announced the seizure of a cache of arms – 440 rifles – imported from Turkey in Lagos.

In January, the service also disclosed that it seized 661 firearms on Apapa road, which were in a truck headed for an unknown destination.
