Hair removal is a basic part of grooming; yet people often debate what parts of the body should be shaved or not. Though hair typically grows all over the human body, it becomes more visible in some parts as we mature and is therefore encouraged to deliberately remove.

For the men, the parts of the body that is encouraged you shave are armpits and pubic region. The women (unfortunately) have more work to do as they are expected to shave the hair in their armpits, pubic region, legs and face (except lashes and eyebrows). Some women may experience excess hair growth and have hair on their chest and abdomen which are parts that should be shaved too.

Allowing hair grow in the places mentioned above for both genders is generally considered to be poor hygiene and unattractive. Getting rid of hair in these parts minimize unpleasant body odour as sweat and bacteria can be absorbed by hair causing unpleasant scent; it also enhances comfort while wearing some type of fabrics and it feels nice to have smooth skin during contact.

There are various methods of hair removal; some are considered more effective than others due to how frequently you need to repeat the process. Temporary hair removal methods include shaving with a razor or shaver; trimming with a small pair of scissors; using shaving cream or powder; tweezing; waxing; threading. Some semi-permanent and permanent options are use of medication to weaken hair growth; laser hair removal and electrolysis (using electricity to damage areas that produce hair).

Besides shaving with a razor stick or cream, it is advised that every other method should be carried out by a professional. Hair textures, rate of growth as well as skin conditions also affect the choice of method; for instance some people cannot survive waxing or threading. Another factor to consider is the effect these methods may cause; the most common being itchiness, bumps or ingrown hair.

Some of these effects may not be avoidable and should be managed; for instance instead of shaving your skin dry, try using oil or baby soap to make the process easy and at the same time protecting the skin. If a hair removal method causes lacerations or any unbearable discomfort please seek medical help and choose an alternative.
