Ahmad Salkida, the Nigerian journalist taken into custody on Monday, weeks after being declared wanted by the army, has been released late Tuesday.

The sources said Mr. Salkida was released on Tuesday evening by the State Security Service, more than a day after he was arrested at the airport in Abuja.

Sources say the Journalist Salkida severely denied allegations of being sympathetic to Boko Haram and chose to return to Nigeria to clear his name.

Mr Salkida on arrival to Nigeria was received by the Nigerian Security agents in Abuja Airport, met with Nigerian military officials who handed him over to the DSS.

Mr. Salkida was declared wanted on August 14 alongside two others. The two turned themselves in the second day and were subsequently granted administrative bail.

Mr. Salkida was accused of aiding Boko Haram. Authorities also raised issues about the way he was sourcing video recordings from the sect.

He, however, denied the allegations when quizzed by SSS officials.

Having spent a night with Nigerian military authorities, Salkida was released by Nigeria’s Secret Police unconditionally.

Mr Salkida voluntarily returned to Nigeria from his base in the UAE after being declared wanted for alleged links with Boko Haram.

Traveling documents and other personal items collected from Salkida by Nigerian security agents have since been returned.
