The political crisis in Kogi State, has taken a new twist as All Progressives Congress, Deputy governorship candidate in the November 21, 2016 Governorship election in the state, James Faleke, has raised over increasing arrests and harassment of his supporters by police the state.
Faleke’s alarm came at the heels of Sunday arrest of a House Assembly candidate in last year election, Cornelius Olowo, at his residence in Ekinrin/Adde, (Faleke’s home town).
But Governor Yahaya Bello denied a hand in the arrest of Faleke’s loyalists.
Faleke, in a statement from the Director, Media and Publicity of his campaign organisation, Duro Meseko, said Olowo was arrested by Policemen from Iyara Division of the Nigerian Police and whisked to the State Command, Lokoja.
He said: “Once again, am compelled to state my total condemnation against this growing spate of harassment and intimidation of my supporters by men of the Nigerian Police acting on the orders of Alhaji Yahaya Bello. I wish to state categorically that our political organisation would use all lawful means to resist this continued act of aggression against us. It is sad.”
