Finally, DSS To Grant Lawyers Access To Shiites Leader, Sheikh el-Zakzaky

Founder of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites), Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, held incommunicado since December 13, 2015, following a clash his followers had with the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, will now be allowed to talk with his lawyers.

El-zakzaky Justice Muhammad Lawal-Garba, the Chairman, Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Dec. 12 Army/Shiites clash, said he has the assurances of the Department of State Services (DSS), to make the religious leader available to his lawyer.

Justice Garba therefore adjourned sitting till Wednesday.

The panel had on Monday, March 17 mandated the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) to submit a memorandum on March 21.

The commission had said the memorandum would form the basis for the sect’s appearance before the panel.

However, at the resumed sitting of the panel on Monday, Lawal-Garba announced that the panel would hear the memorandum of the Nigerian Army on March 23.
