Ex-Militant Chief, Government Tompolo Threatens Legal Action Against Nigerian Journalists

Ex-freedom fighter,High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a, Tompolo has warned journalists threatens court actions against
journalists defaming his character if the unprofessional act is stopped.

High Chief Ekpemupolo who was reacting to recent publication by Bolaji Ogundele of the Nation Newspaper handed down the threat in statement released through his media consultant, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo to newsmen.

High Chief Ekpemupolo warned journalists using his name in false news stories to desist from the unprofessional practice which he christened “wicked practice” stressing that it will do them no good.

The Ijaw Chief claimed that his name has allegedly used falsely by Bolaji Ogundele in a news stories where he said, “that boys loyal to
High chief Ekpemupolo allegedly shot at JAD Nigeria Ltd workers,who are carrying out a clearing job at the Itsekiri end of the EPZ site.”

High Chief Ekpemupolo noted that “he has nothing to do in the EPZ site as he has no contract or job to do in the EPZ site. This can be
confirmed from the owners of the project. The only interest he has in the EPZ project is the protection of what rightly belongs to the
people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, and that is Gbaramatu deep sea port,which land belongs to the people of Gbaramatu kingdom, and has been so designated by the Federal Government of Nigeria during the grand breaking ceremony on March 26, 2015.”

High Chief Ekpemupolo described the report by Bolaji Ogundele as “simply mischievous, frivolous and sensational” pointing out that
there is no iota of truth in the said publication.

High Chief Ekpemupolo noted that some journalists with evil tendencies want to incite the Itsekiris against him and also sell their papers.

He said, “Let such journalists know that he is at peace with the Itsekiri people which was evident in his visit to leaders of the the Itsekiri Nation some time ago.”

High Chief Ekpemupolo stated that that if the unprofessional practice of journalism is not stopped forthwith, he will be forced to seek
redress in the court.

While pledging his resolve to continue working with journalists in Nigeria through advocacy for better living condition, High Chief
Ekpemupolo said, he does not wish them evil and such they should not wish him evil.
