Impeachment: Court Orders Ekiti APC Lawmakers To Maintain Status Quo

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the Ekiti House of Assembly seeking the impeachment of Governor Ayodele Fayose to maintain the status quo.

The court says the order should be up held pending the determination of the suit filed by seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the state.

The trial judge, Hustle Evoh Chukwu, summoned the lawmakers to appear before him and show cause why he should not declare their seats vacant and also set aside all the actions taken so far with respect to the impeachment of Governor Fayose.

The judge also ?ordered the plaintiffs to issue and serve the originating summons and all other processes in the suit on the defendants through substituted means.

?Justice Chukwu, thereafter, adjourned the suit to May 4, 2015? for hearing of the motion on notice.

The defendants had asked the court to stop the impeachment proceedings against Governor Fayose.

They also sought that the Clerk of the Ekiti State Assembly should be restrained from further according legislative privileges to the APC lawmakers in view of their continued absence from meetings and legislative business of the state House of Assembly, pending the determination of the Motion on Notice for interlocutory injunction.
