Today Nigerians remember the Buni Yadi boys gruesomely murdered by Boko Haram while they slept in their boarding school in Yobe state, north-east Nigeria.
Islamist group Boko Haram shot or burned to death 59 pupils overnight, though there’s been conflicting reports over the deaths, other accounts say it was 29 but students were killed for daring to school and we remember them. “Some of the students’ bodies were burned to ashes,” Police Commissioner Sanusi Rufai said of the attack on the Federal Government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state, near the state’s capital city of Damaturu.
NewsWireNGR recalls that Yobe state was attacked overnight a year ago when students were in their dormitories and all the victims were teenage boys and 11 others were seriously injured. Most of the school was burned to the ground.
Nigeria’s Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has called for Justice over the killing of the School boys by terrorists. In a series of tweets, Atiku said, The #BuniYadi59 boys were killed for daring to be educated. They are the real heroes of education.

“It is unfortunate that up to five hours when this massacre took place, there were no security agents around to stop or contain the situation,” Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam had said in a statement.
