Ali Modu Sheriff Confirmed As PDP Senatorial Candidate, Cleared By DSS

The immediate past governor of Borno state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has been confirmed as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Borno Central senatorial district in the forthcoming general elections.

His emergence as the consensus candidate of the PDP was confirmed by Umar Sanda, the acting Secretary of PDP Youth Wing in Borno State.

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s candidacy  for the Borno Central Senatorial seat followed after being cleared recently by the Department of State Security Services (DSSS) over alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram Islamist sect.

With this security clearance, Sheriff will contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after submitting the Borno Central Senatorial ticket through a consensus arrangement said to have been reached in Abuja.

A PDP source in Maiduguri also confirmed yesteray the “security clearance” of the former governor to contest the senatorial seat. He will contest with Senator Ahmed Zanna, who also recently defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC)..

In 2011, Khalifa, then a member of the PDP, defeated Sheriff in the senatorial elections with a wide margin of votes.
